The short answer

Keep purchase and sale records, dividend receipts, fund factsheets, vendor screening reports and any Shariah board opinions. Also record purification calculations and donations made. Good records make compliance and later checks much simpler.

Essential records

Transaction confirmations, dividend statements, annual fund reports, Shariah screening reports and dates, and copies of any Shariah opinions or governance documents.

Shariah-compliance considerations

Document how you applied the chosen screening standard (for example AAOIFI Standard 21 if you adopt it as your benchmark). Record vendor data dates and calculation conventions.

What this means in practice

  1. 1Keep digital and/or printed copies of transaction confirmations and dividend statements.
  2. 2Save fund factsheets and any Shariah methodology documents for each holding.
  3. 3Record purification calculations, assumptions and charity receipts.
